News from the Room

If not for the The Royal Women's Hospital’s Pregnancy After Loss care, our daughter might not be here today.

When my wife was pregnant with her last year, the team gave us the additional clinical support and extra emotional care families need when choosing hope again after pregnancy loss. This extra care helped discover some complications and allowed for closer monitoring and early intervention. If not for this added care, this discovery may have been found too late.

Addison is now one, she idolises her big brother, and I can only imagine the friendship she’d be building with her big sister Billie, if she were here with us today.

This care is now being scaled back because of limited funding. The hospital is public, and while government support and donations cover a lot, services like this are at risk of closing. I couldn’t allow this support to disappear for the many families who will need it in the years ahead.

That’s why by I’m hosting a global livestream event on November 29 & 30. I’ll be attempting a Guinness World Record, riding a kick scooter over 270 km in 24 hours, to raise awareness and funds for Pregnancy After Loss care.

If we reach the $100k target, it will keep this service going for up to five years.

24 Hours - 1 Scooter - 1 Purpose

$100K for Pregnancy after loss Care

The 411

This Week at Room Eleven

OUTREACH, OUTREACH, OUTREACH

Other than training. I’ve been doing outreach for sponsors, and pitching Grief Literacy Workshops.

Where’s the Podcast?

OK, some of you may be wondering what happened to the podcast. Well to be honest, I’ve still got one in the can that I am yet to release. But given the fundraising event schedule I’ve put it on the backburner. But will aim to get it out by the end of next week. That will be the end of season 1 until after the event is complete.

I am looking forward to season 2. A company called Tales.com are sending their Life Stories prompt cards that I’m going to be using during season 2. I hope they will spark more stories and take the conversations to places I couldn’t think to go.

Weekly Musings

What I’m Watching: Downton Abbey : The Grand Finale

I went with Mum this afternoon. I watched the series when it first came out, and I have good memories of talking about it and watching with my nana before she passed away in 2022. I hadn’t seen the two earlier films, but the good thing is it didn’t matter—it was easy to catch up.

The story wasn’t gripping, but it wasn’t dull either. It felt like an extended episode of the show—comfortable and familiar. It was a fitting tribute to Dame Maggie Smith, and it gave all the characters a proper send-off.

If you’re a fan of Downton Abbey, or even just a casual watcher, it’s worth seeing.

What I’m reading: The 4 hour work week

I first read this about five years ago. Back then, I wasn’t running my own business, and my job didn’t give me the freedom to try out most of the strategies. It was still an interesting read, and it got me into Tim Ferriss’ other books, which I found helpful.

Now things are different. I’m running a social enterprise, training for the Guinness World Record and balancing family life. Time management matters a lot more, so I picked it up again to see if it has anything practical for me now.

So far, I haven’t put new strategies in place, but it has sparked some ideas for future projects. Not exactly time-saving—but still useful fruit.

This week’s newsletter pulls together a mix of reflections — watching Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale with Mum and remembering my nana, revisiting The 4-Hour Work Week with fresh eyes as I juggle business, training, and family, and updating where things are at with the fundraising push for Pregnancy After Loss care.

Take a moment this week to reflect on what matters most in your life, and put energy into that first.

If you’d like to help us keep moving forward with Scooting for Hope and the work of Room Eleven, the best way is to share this newsletter, spread the word, or reach out if you’d like to get involved.

See you next week.
