News from the Room

Introduction

Hello and welcome to the Room. This is the start of the Room Eleven newsletter.

Written by the Founder and Managing Director of Room Eleven.

Raising awareness for Stillbirth, and helping people find ways to better manage their grief is what we are all about. Having said that, the purpose of the newsletter is so you can get to know me a little better. Get an understanding of the thought process that goes into running Room Eleven. Bring you along for the ride when new projects and products come on board and new initiatives take shape!

I endeavour to make it as concise as possible, and aim to keep the tone light. Grief and loss, especially in the context of child loss is a serious matter, but I think finding the humour in all of life’s endeavours makes the dark times a little bit brighter.

So get ready, because “when this baby gets up to 88mph….we’re gonna see some serious shit!”

The 411

This Week at Room Eleven

It’s been my first full week back at work (I have a full time job outside of Room Eleven) since taking some leave to focus on the International Stillbirth Alliance Conference. Where I spoke about Grief, Growth and Resilience, a father’s story of loss and the lessons I’ve learnt since losing Billie. It was a condensed version of the talk I’ve developed for Medical professionals, organisations and secondary schools.

Being back at my full time job, which primarily focuses on partnering with schools to provide digital education and online safety workshops to students consumed most of days up until Wednesday when our little ones got sick and needed to some TLC.

I have made some progress in the development of the upcoming podcast I’m developing. Equipment and starting the conversations required to obtain some great guests to share their expertise and/or experience around topics like grief, stillbirth and infant loss. The podcast will aim to launch in early 2025 so watch this space!

As many of you reading will know, I’m over 300+ days into running 6km every single day to represent the 6 babies stillborn every single day in Australia. Had a couple of late night runs after the kids went to bed to keep up my consistent daily practice of honouring those babies and their families.

The Stillbirth CRE

& Room Eleven

Due to the amazing people I met at the ISA Conference, Ive been invited to participate in their pregnancy after loss working group. I look forward to being involved and potentially helping them out in getting the Rainbow Clinic Network cemented in Australia.

Weekly Musings

Reading : Granny Mobile (a Bluey book)

Order Granny Mobile here or at your local bookstore: https://amzn.asia/d/2P9qgnp

Bedtime stories with my son dominate my current reading list, and honestly, I’m not complaining. Bluey books are top-tier—funny, heartfelt, and meaningful. “Granny Mobile” is another winner in a series that never disappoints.

Bluey books are a quiet reminder to be present during life’s simple, meaningful moments.

Watching : Line of Duty

Available to stream on Netflix Aus

After finishing Slow Horses (a brilliant British spy drama), I was craving more. Line of Duty came highly recommended, and I’m glad I finally gave it a go. It’s sharp, gripping, and packed with twists. Perfect for anyone who loves British crime dramas.

Movie Recomendation : Edge of Tomorrow

Available to stream on Netflix Aus

One of Tom Cruise’s best sci-fi films, hands down. The Groundhog Day-style plot, relentless pacing, and edge-of-your-seat tension make it an all-time favourite. If you’ve somehow missed this one, it’s time to fix that.

There’s also something compelling about a story where failure isn’t the end but a chance to begin again. It’s a reminder that persistence and adaptation are often the keys to breaking through.

Earworm of the week: Hi Ren, by Ren

Watch the incredible music video here: https://youtu.be/s_nc1IVoMxc?si=1lqFzapmrXFMo4gz

This song hits differently. It’s raw, intense, and captures the chaos of being in turmoil with yourself. It’s less of a song and more of an experience—a conversation with your inner demons that’s impossible to forget.

Things I’m Testing: Nutra Organics - Super Greens + Reds

This supplement sits somewhere in the middle of the taste spectrum—not great, but not unbearable either. I’ve been using it for about a month to see if it boosts my energy and gut health. Too soon to tell, but I’ll keep you posted.

Quote I'm Pondering

“You’re not buried in the darkness, you’ve been planted”

I’ve been thinking about this quote this week. It’s a powerful shift in perspective—seeing those moments when life feels suffocating not as an end, but as the groundwork for something new to grow.

But growth isn’t automatic; like a seed, it depends on what nourishment we give ourselves. For me, nourishment has looked like small, intentional acts of self-care, finding ways to honour what I’ve lost, and turning pain into purpose. It’s a reminder that in those dark, buried moments, we hold the potential for resilience, beauty, and meaning to take root—if we tend to ourselves with care.

To Sum Up

Thanks for checking out the very first edition of the Room Eleven newsletter. This week has been a mix of work, family, and making progress on some exciting Room Eleven projects, all while reflecting on the lessons that loss continues to teach me. Through these updates, experiments, and musings, I hope you get a better sense of what Room Eleven is all about—finding purpose, growth, and resilience in the face of grief.

I’m looking forward to sharing more of the highs, lows, and everything in between as the journey unfolds. Let’s keep finding the humour, meaning, and light in life’s darker moments. Until next time—stay curious, stay kind, and remember, sometimes the darkest places are where the best growth begins.
